Tumblins

established in 2013

Tumblins is situated in the heart of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers panoramic views over miles of unspoilt countryside looking south-east towards Old Harry Rocks and the Isle of Wight. If the sun rises over the horizon, we are among the first to see it, and being 600 feet above sea level very few people know we’re here.

Tumblins went through a complete refurbishment and extension during 2012/13 to luxury standards. The house is eco-friendly, being well insulated and heated by air source heat pumps while the water is heated by solar panels. We also have photovoltaic panels producing electricity whenever solar is available and the rain water is harvested in tanks to water the garden and fill the ecological swimming pond which is available for guests to use. Even the water we use in the house is pumped up from springs in the valley below.

Over the last seven years we have created a large garden from our 8 acres, with the emphasis on unusual plants which offer colour and nectar the year-round so there is always something to see, apart from the wild ducks which visit regularly to keep the carp company. We also have two border collies, Inkie & Pixie (mother and daughter), and, given half a chance, the younger will lick visitors to death!

The nearest market town is the unique Georgian town of Blandford Forum which was rebuilt completely in brick after a devastating fire in 1731 and still retains much of its character. About ten minutes further on is the magnificent stately house at Kingston Lacy, now run by the National Trust, and, looking further afield, it takes about 45 minutes to drive through country lanes to reach the coast with the coastal path, cliffs and beaches as well as hidden pubs beloved by smugglers in the past.

We are within easy reach of Bryanston, Knighton House and Milton Abbey schools.

Being in such unspoilt country there are always plenty of gardens to visit in the locality while more cultural activities are catered for by Dorset Opera, the Plush Music Festival, the Chalke Valley History Festival and many others – see Events. A full range of information is always available when you make your booking and there are many walks in the immediate area for those who want to give the car a rest.

We look forward to your stay.
